RE: [Thinstation-general] RE: Time Zone: msg#00023

network.thinstation.devel

Subject: RE: [Thinstation-general] RE: Time Zone

may have found the problem

open("/share/zoneinfo/PST", O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or
directory)
although looking on my system there is no PST file in that folder either.
However, there is NZ and GMT and loads of others.

I remember someone having a similar problem, can't you set the server to
ignore the client time?

the other thing that may fix the problem is replace

/base/etc/localtime with one from your system with the correct time zone.

ps, make sure you do a . /etc/thinstation.global before running ica, so it
sets the correct locale.

Hi Aurther,

Yep, thats normal, as when you login the local is not set. Doing a

. /etc/thinstation.global

will set up the TS environment, date should return the correct time.

Can you try something for me.

enable the debug package

then from xterm through blackbox

do a

strace wfica -icaroot //lib/ICAClient -desc "APPLICATION SET NAME" >
/tmp/filename.txt 2>&1

then exit out of your session

then send me the contents of filename.txt

Cheers

Miles

Thanks for the feedback, Miles. I have tried 2.1b1, but have the same
symptoms:
In an Blackbox session, xterm shows the time zone as PST but a Citrix
session
launched from the same session ends up as GMT. One other thing I noticed
though... if I do a ctrl-alt-F2 and logon to the console, date returns with
a
zone of Universal. Is that expected? Could it be related?

I also got a reply back from Citrix:

Arthur, the developers tell me that our client uses the expanded time
functions from the standard C library to get timezone information: "man
localtime".

Unfortunately we can't support the ThinStation distribution, you may wish to
contact the project leaders for assistance.

its odd, I thought there was a solution to this on the mailing list, but I
think the the person just never responded when we asked about it a few
months ago.

anyhow, let me know how you get on.

I'm planning to release ts 2.1 beta1 this weekend which has extended locale
support, this may fix it.

I am also experiencing the problem with time zones not being correctly
detected.
I have no problems when running the ICA client (have tried both version 7.0
and
8.0) from Redhat, which is also the only officially supported distribution
for
the Linux ICA Client. What I'm seeing is that the time zone is always set
to
GMT when running under Thinstation.

I opened a support incident and I'm now working with a Linux expert at
Citrix
support. I will report back with any fixes or workarounds that we can
figure
out.

Arthur.
