resource's 'self' URI would remain the same for all various representations (ie. as represented in the collection feed, and the
'edit' representation)?

I don't really know. And I don't think it's a problem. All the different representations of the same entry has the same atom:id, so what link[@rel='edit']/@href points to is not that significant imo. Plus, it's not required, so dropping it in the 'edit' representation is probably a good idea.
