Search functionality of APP

Hi

I think search has been discussed before, but I am not sure what's the 
status or general opinion is resp.
have trouble finding it within the archives resp. Google

It would be nice if someone could do a quick summary resp. point me to one.

I also wanted to ask if the following has already been considered:

<link rel="search" href="http://foo.bar/search"/>

whereas the QueryString might have to be standardized ...
