Hi
... seems to me, that you're routing into the wrong net.
If your vpn-server has the public ip of x.y.z.w, what is the id of the net
behind the vpn-server you want to reach?
Most likely it will not be the public net-id of x.y.z.0, but some private
address range...
Assuming its 192.168.0.0, then the route would be
route 192.168.0.0 255.255.255.0 172.16.0.33

Maybe this gives some hint... ;-)
