Those releases are very old, and are known to suffer from security
problems. At the very least, you should try installing ucd-snmp-4.2.6
and preferably use the current release (net-snmp-5.1)

If you've accepted the default configuration settings,
then snmpd should be in /usr/local/sbin

If it's not there, then I'd have a look at the compilation
output. Make sure that this compilation *did* succeed.
