Sometimes I browse the bugs, and I like to mark the ones we should really fix before a release with a higher priority, so they jump to my attention when I get around to bug fixing. If I'm actually doing fixing, then, like you, I just fix. Unless it look important, but isn't my area. DS> If I feel that I can tackle a particular bug, then I'll do so. That's fine, but if, for example, you see a table-array bug you are going to skip, and notice it causes a crash, it'd be nice if it was flagged a little higher than one that simply caused a mis-registered table or something. That way, when I come in, I'll get to it first. It would also help if we took a page from the way SF does support, and renamed the text of the report with keywords. For example, if I look at a bug that's labeled "table registration doesn't work", and see it's an iterator table, I'd add a 'iterator:' prefix, or something like that.
