Keep length of oid index within 128

Hi,

I understand that the max length of an index of a table is 128 and 
DisplayString type is 255. If an index of a table is a string with variable 
length and it is also a DisplayString oid in the table, how can I make the 
index within 128 and keep the value of oid with 255 length if the string is 
greater than 128? If you can point out where I should look into the code, I'll 
be appreciated.
