Hi List,
I wrote a Perl module that works on top of Net-SNMP called
SNMP::Info. It's on CPAN and is on ver 0.4 now, and it lives
at snmp-info.sourceforge.net . It provides a common interface for
network devices, by diving into MIBs itself. For example you can say
$device->i_duplex() to get the interface duplex info, and it
doesn't matter if the device is using CISCO-SWITCH-MIB or IF-MIB or
whatever... hopefully it figures it out for you. It also provides a
real easy interface to a MIB, blah blah blah.
As I support this module the most common problem I have is in having
people install the Perl modules for Net-SNMP correctly. Having the
Net::SNMP and the old old SNMP:: modules on CPAN really confuses people.
I've noticed a lot of posts in the archives of this list and
net-snmp-users explaining how to get the right modules installed.
What I would like to propose is that the README is added for each version of
Net-SNMP's Perl modules and posted to CPAN (Just the README). That way when you
go into the SNMP directory you see that the modules are actively being
developed,
and in the README you find a pointer to the net-snmp project and its Perl
modules.
Also, I don't know what scope the "Related Software" is on the home
page but I would love to have SNMP::Info and the project that it was
built for, Netdisco, added to the list if appropriate. They live at
snmp-info.sourceforge.net and netdisco.org (also in sourceforge) respectively.
I'll post a little announce here about Netdisco as it is built using
the most rocking Net-SNMP.
RFC,TIA,etc.etc.
