Administering DNS on a subdomain: msg#00455

Subject: Administering DNS on a subdomain
Hi,

Our company has a commercially provided hostname and server as well as an
additional webserver which is located on site. The commercial server is in
charge of eunicomp.com. We have added a mapping (ebay.eunicomp.com) which maps
to our local machine.

I'm trying to get BIND working on our local machine. So far, I've been able to
set it up fairly well. I can add entries for any sub-sub-domain to
eunicomp.com (i.e. ns.ebay.eunicomp.com). However, when I try to resolve just
ebay.eunicomp.com from our local server, it does not resolve to a valid
address. It shows the SOA as our local machine, but there is no answer for
ebay.eunicomp.com.

How can I add an entry to my SOA file so that ebay.eunicomp.com (without an
additional sub-domain) will resolve to my local machine? I've tried:
*   IN   A    68.15.116.72
and it works for all *.ebay.eunicomp.com, but not for ebay.eunicomp.com.

Thanks in advance,

Scott
