BIND 9 is more strict about standards-adherence. BIND 8 was rather sloppy in this regard, and while it may have "helped" you in this particular instance, its sloppiness caused all sorts of other problems, even to the extent of making certain configurations impossible. In the long term, it's better that everyone clean up their act and follow the established standards. BIND 9 is currently acting as a sort of "auditor" of people's domains, choking on non-conformant domains it runs across, which causes some short-term pain, but eventually the pain will get less and less and eventually things will be more stable and predictable than they were before. - Kevin |
