hell yeah it poses a problem. It drains your battery.
The screen is whatever brightness to which you set it in Wince before
booting.

- does the 1.6-z50 kernel have LCD suspend support? i'm not sure... i know
that the 1.5.1-based kernel from greg hughes does though (as well as
support audio)
- using greg's kernel, i adjust brightness/contrast *before* booting
NetBSD (during those few rare seconds that i use [shudder] Windows CE)...

Re: z50 brightness/contrast/suspend
I used gdb to enable LCD suspend support under 1.6-z50 kernel, but it
sometimes crashes when I try to suspend... Won't this happen to your z50
running the 1.5.1-based kernel from greg hughes? If it won't, how nice...

I have the MC-R700A (MobilePro 800), and even under Wince the battery

I see. Thanks for the info.
There is NetBSD code to expose battery information to userland, but
the hardware doesn't provide battery information in any serious way,
compared to, say, an Ericsson celfone. It is more like a Motorola
celfone.
Makes sense.
Also NetBSD can't control the screen's backlight.
Does that pose a problem or is the screen just full brightness?
hpcmips is kind of a pain in the ass, but I promised never to buy
another Intel CPU, ever, so it's worth it. At least it feels like a
real computer, and also you avoid being forced to use those stupid
XFree86 servers.
Out of curiosity, what would cause you to never buy another Intel CPU?
No XFree86 either?
Thanks for the info.

Which dist set should I download for Greg's kernel?
Hi, I am testing the 1.6-fix kernel for z50. I am planning to recompile
the kernel with LCD control enabled as mentioned in the previous email. If
the PCMCIA devices don't go to sleep when I suspend or if LCD control
enabled kernel crashes, I am going to try Greg's kernel. Could anyone tell
me which dist set should I download? I never understand what the 1.5ZC
stand for. It looks like CVS-current to me. Does ZC stand for Zeta Current
or Zeta CVS?
