Freedb vs MusicBrainz

I currently use EAC/FreeDB/Tag&Rename for my ripping and tagging.

Is there any advantage in switching to MusicBrainz/Picard for tagging?

Annoyances about my current setup:

1) Inconsistencies in tag names:
eg sometimes you get John Coltrane other times Coltrane, John.

2) Inconsistencies on VA albums tracknames
eg track(artist), artist-track,track-artist, artist/track etc etc

3) T&R seems a bit inflexible in handling VAs. Yes you can set up
different expressions for the tag filters, but you have to tag albums
with filters individually. It doesn't seem to be able handle a
directory with a mix of filters automatically.

Does Musicbrainz/Picard handle this better? Or am I expecting too
much?
