Um... try it and see what you like?

Using the latest LAME (3.97) I use "-V 3 --vbr-new" for my iPod Nano. 
If space is a concern you might try -V 4 (--preset medium) or even -V
5.  If quality is a concern, go the other way to "-V 2" (--preset
standard).
