Optimal mp3 settings

I am now the owner of a mp3 player.

I have already ripped my collection flac and found the flac2mp3 tool.

What would be the best compression settings to get a decent (well kinda
decent) sound. I have 1500+ albums so I don't expect them all to fit on
the player at the same time.

Any other tips and tricks wrt mp3?
