Cleaning up genre tags?: msg#00281

Subject: Cleaning up genre tags?

Hi all,
I'm helping a (definitely non-techie) friend of mine organize his tags.
I made him buy an SB3 and rip all his stuff to FLAC, but ~30% of the
genres are not ie. 'Salsa' but rather ie. '87'. We need to fix those
genre tags.

The BeginnersGuideToTagging wiki page is a bit skimpy, but does say,> To fix
tagging errors after the event you will want a good tagging tool.
> Again, there are many, here are a few of the good ones:
>
> * ID3-TagIT - Windows
> * Mp3tag - Windows, see SlimServer-specific guide here.
> * MP3 Tag Editor - Windows
> * Tag & Rename - Windows
> * Godfather - Windows
> * MusicBrainz - Windows/Linux/Mac (This is a moderated CD database
> and possibly the most accurate source of tags)
> * MusicMagic Mixer - Windows (not strictly a tagging tool, but has
> an easy interface allowing multi-select tag changes)
> * Foobar2000 - Windows media player, with a powerful yet simple
> tagging interface
> (non-Windows items not shown)
But I am at a loss: which one/s is/are recommended for batch
processing? Ideally, it must be:
* easy to use (astonishingly important, or I'll end up doing it for him
...)
* working in batch mode (not one-file-at-a-time)
* able to process FLAC (obviously)
* free (don't care to cough up $25 for tag editing (and a time-trial
won't cut it))

Any tips? Reviews of tagger software?

Eagerly awaiting your responses! Merry xmas and a happy new year!
