I used to have a regular Plextor CD-R drive, it kept getting choked on
some 'copy protected' CDs. Then i got a Plextor Premium and the only
disk it hasn't been able to rip was a friends Korn album that was
completely trashed, would never get the last couple of minutes.

So thumbs up for Plextor

Robin, I would like to use your Apply ReplayGain script to apply replaygain to my folder of mp3s. Is this the only line in the script I need to change? grep { /\.flac$/ } # just flac files to: grep { /\.mp3$/ } # just mp3 files -- jonheal Jon Heal says: Have a nice day! http://www.theheals.org/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------ jonheal's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2133 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=16240

If you want to process those files, you'll need to use the mp3 equivalents of Audio::FLAC::Header (to check existing tags) and metaflac (to calculate and write Replaygain tags). R. PS. Re: Best computer drive for ripping cds?

Plextor and Pioneer are typically rated fairly high. Anything capable of doing DAE (pretty much anything new) is going to pull every bit off your CD. For Windows I'd recommend AudioGrabber with LAME since it's easy enough to get a Grip on and can do MD5sums of your tracks. No need to confuse yourself with EAC. For the linux/other unix world, I prefer GRIP. Should you go that route I'd give you my grip .config files for maximum rip/encode quality in MP3 format. Re: EAC: Track name in red colour?

Thanks for the info guys. Radish you are right, there is a 'hidden' track in the pre-gap. It is a demo version of the first song '9 crimes'. Its quite nice, and I wouldn't have known about this if I hadn't gone down this path. Now, of course I have to be able to rip it :) ... -- Nikhil ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Nikhil's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=993 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=30182
