Subject: Re: Gages of string with RMC pick-up

I thought about this a while back when I was really trying to
optimize my equipment and here are the basic conclusions I came to.

Common sense says that clean, clear tone equals clean, clear
conversion to midi. Hence, a good set up and good technique are far
more important then anything to due with string gauge or type.

Sustain of analog tone means sustain of midi tone (without a hold
pedal). Hence, the longer the guitar tone sustains the better for
midiguitar tone sustain.

The better feeling the guitar set-up is to the player the better it
is played. I have found no substantial difference in tracking amongst
string gauges or type nor except as they relate to clarity of the
guitar tone and longevity in that reqard. I haven't I heard anything
scientific to contradict this.

The guitar tone you are looking for is far more important because it
is a guitar first. The feel is what will lend itself to your making
the most significant artisitc statement and isn't this what it is
really all about.

So don't worry to much about string gauge except as it pertains to
guitar tone and feel. Go with what sounds good and feels good and
make the music that you hear in your heart come out through your
hands.

For those that want to be more scientific I would love to see the
benchmarked tracking and response results for string gauges and types
as well as side by side comparisons of systems with different guitars
and synth pickups and converters and synth modules. Actually I am
considering starting the Guitarists United Institute for Testing,
Analyzing, Researching, and Developing Equipment and Drugs (a.k.a.
GUITARDED) For those interested please visit my web site at
