I use the USB 4X4 MIDISport, it's great. Since it sounds like several musicians will be recorded I recommend you take a look at MIDI Maestro for your sequencer. Although it was primarily designed to control stage devices, it can record each musician performance on a separate track and echo the patched assigned to each controller during the recording process. Cakewalk can't do this, I don't know about Cubase.
