midi guitar

I am pretty new to the midi/guitar scene, and I'm just curious what 
sort of things my guitar is capable of. 

I know I can get a HEX pickup--Im not sure how well these things 
work, and I also have heard that I can get a GK pickup, run it 
through a Roland which then from there, that can be transferred to 
midi (but wouldn't this make for awful delay time); but finally, 
could I get a guitar custom fitted for a midi output (I've seen some 
Godins--which is what i play--with 'synth access', but I believe 
this is only for the Roland GK type thing and not geniune MIDI), and 
if so, do any of you have some ballpark ranges for how much this 
would cost--i know it depends on a lot of things, but ballpark...

as far as capabilities...can I basically control a synth box that 
has midi input? Like say for instance I was to buy the Korg TRITON 
Rack module (no..i dont think i would) instead of the actual 
keyboard, then set that up in my guitar effects rack, with my midi 
plugged into it...during a live gig, could I just flip it on, and 
start making the keyboard sounds with it? how good is the delay time?
oooh if this is true the possibilities are 
eeeeeenndddlleeesssss...
