Steve Hackett is mentioned in the sleevenotes to the '96 remaster liner
notes, and a pic of some bloke captioned as 'Steve' holding what appears
to be an Ibanez or G-505 (Strat body, GR300 clearly visible, but
baby-blue and yellow body so I'm not sure what it actually is).

I get confused sometimes ;) Re-reading, I'm fairly sure it is Rothery.

I was fortunate enough to purchase my MX8000A from Fish, and was given
