I have a strong undocumented suspicion that many of these problems would turn out to be people using old un-updated versions of Norton products. Ther is no earthly reason to expect a one or two-year old version of products in this category to not have problems. I understand that many people may be on a budget and click past those update notices when they see it will cost them. But this is the state of affairs in computing today. It's up to the individual but when you avoid updates to save a few bucks you surf at your own peril. An aside: If you shop around you can find Norton (and almost any) products at retail with rebates that might actually cost you less than if you do an upgrade through Symantec. I've done it several times, getting Norton System Works the last time (version 2005) for about $40. If you want the protection on an ongoing basis you need to understand that the costs are ongoing as well. -- Ed Mullen http://edmullen.net http://edmullen.net/Mozilla/moz.html |
