Have your bookmarks disappeared from the bookmark manager sidebar or is it just the sidebar that is not displaying, and the bookmarks still exist in the standalone manager (Ctrl+B)?

[Sorry for the looooong delay in responding]

They had disappeared from the sidebar as well as the bookmark manager.

And it's happened again (sort of). This time, *some* of my bookmarks have disappeared (some hierarchies). I can't figure out what triggered it. I got up this morning and I couldn't find some precious links :-(

I can't find where bookmarks.html is kept, so I can at least back it up. (Windows "Search can not find bookmarks.html, which is the name of the bookmarks file, according to Mozilla Help.

I tried to navigate Mozilla's bug reporting system, but I got confused (ok - impatient is more like it).

Needless to say, I'm spooked (and losing faith in Mozilla). Nothing like this ever happened to me with IE. Now, I've lost data twice within 4 months!

"About Mozilla" reports that I'm on Mozilla 1.7 (Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040616)

Any suggestions are welcome!

Regards,

Bill

Re: What's the Big Deal with Firefox?

I keep my Windows XP machines on until I have to reboot them because things stop working correctly, which happens every couple of weeks or so. I don't recall ever having to do that when I was using OS/2. I use my WinXP machine a LOT, doing various things, often with beta (or alpha) software and I reboot only when an install or update requires it. That is usually about once a week, but may happen several times in a day, or not for several weeks. In the time I have had WinXP, I have had maybe two reboots due to unspecified causes. WinXP is VASTLY more stable than Win9X based versions. Plus it doesn't have that silly crash after 2^32 milliseconds bug. (FYI that's 49 days 17 hours 2 minutes and 47.296 seconds) Because of the way I use my computer, and the frequency of security flaw patches from MS, it is unlikely my computer will ever be up the long without a reboot.

How to get access to Windows Registry form extension's JavaScript?

Hello! I'm writing plugin for mozilla and firefox to provide some integration with our product Omea. Omea is win32-only program, so plugin is useful only on Win32 platform. I need to know: is Omea installed or not/ It could be checked by reading some predifinde windows registry value. Is here any method (XPCOM component) to work with windows registry? I've searched throught www.xulplanet.com, but found only `nsIRegistry' interface without any documentation :( Of course, I could write such component by myself, but I don't want to do so, because in such case I'll need to compile it exatly with same compiler, that was used for Mozilla/Firefox compilation, etc. Lev Serebryakov Programmer JetBrains, Inc http://www.jetbrains.com "Develop with pleasure!"

Regards, Bill For profile location see: http://www.mozilla.org/start/1.5/faq/profile.html http://www.holgermetzger.de/pdl.html You said you lost data twice in 4 months. Do you have a backup of your profile? If not, your bookmarks.html file may indeed be gone. File loss/corruption can happen for a variety of reasons. It is imperative that you backup your profile on a regular basis. Mine is on an automatic nightly schedule. -- Ed Mullen http://edmullen.net http://edmullen.net/moz.html
