FC4/sendmail/monit451 - unmonitored

i can't seem to got monit to monitor sendmail on fc4.  worked quite fine
on rh7.3.

config file:
check process sendmail with pidfile /var/run/sendmail.pid
  group mail
  mode active
  start program = "/etc/init.d/sendmail start"
  stop  program = "/etc/init.d/sendmail stop"
  if failed port 25 protocol smtp then restart
  if 5 restarts within 5 cycles then timeout

pid file:
2735
/usr/sbin/sendmail -bd -q1h

status output:

i have a feeling it is because of the 2nd line in the .pid file, but
i have no idea how to fix this.

ideas please.
