Subject: Re: LG VX4650 and Bitpim Windows

I'm the one who wrote about the VX 4650 and the Mac. After deleting the existing
contact list on the phone and power cycling it, I was able to upload my phone list
using the VX4400 setting, with no mods to bitpim itself. I haven't tried any
other features.

Please ensure you read this:

http://bitpim.org/testhelp/faq-phonenotlisted.htm

And just because it looks like things are working doesn't mean that
stuff isn't getting trashed. BitPim has to read and write several files in the embedded filesystem in addition to the normal sync.
The format of these files changes between models, and so they will
quite happily get trashed without you realising it.

In the case of syncing the phonebook, you may be lucky that the
group file is the same length and each entry is the same size.
If LG changed it, you just trashed that and the phone may not reboot, may end up crashing or may have memory corruption.

The phones are not general purpose computers. They run a
very constrained embedded environment that makes many assumptions about what is going on and typically takes no
precautions against bad data.
