Doing some thinking here (smoke puffs from the ears) from stuff I've read on
the net LG didn't make it allowable for user to put images on the phones.
However you can download any of the various brew apps for downloading
wallpaper. So it would make sense that when I installed the demo app for
Picster 1.0 the phone setup the shared folder. Now picster says once you
remove the app it deletes any wallpaper you got thru the app. I deleted
picster and it didn't remove the brew/shared folder so that must be a phone
setup folder.

It's just like the statup/shutdown/wallpaper bit files. On most phones when
you get the phone those files don't exist, they will only appear once the
wallpaper has been changed.

As for accessing the user images, at least on my phone you do Menu > 8 > 2 >
3 > 1 and then hit the circle button around the OK button to the left or
right. Or there should be a More listed at the bottom of the screen. And the
filename for the images cannot be capitalized.

Actually I have the LG VX3200 thru Alltel, but since they never carry any
accessories I had to go to Verizon to get the data cable. And I did selct
VX3200 in the preferences in bitpim. As far as the brew/shared not working,
maybe it's working for mine because I download a demo app. Possibly there is
a config file somewhere to allow the use of the shared folder. I have
another VX3200 I can try and see if I can upload images to the brew/shared
folder and see if they show up, I haven't installed any apps on that phone
yet.

Just did a check, what it might be is the $USER_DIRS file in the root of the
phone. Did a hex dump and the very last entry in the file is brew/shared/.
So I would first check the $USER_DIRS file on your phone and see if
brew/shared/ is in it. I won't be able to test with the other phone until
late tonight.

Can't seem to get the exception error message to pop up now. Something I am
noticing is if I do a get phone data and select just wallpaper it's still
getting the ringtones as well. It will go thru the steps of getting the
wallpaper.bit file and seems to work fine it will just give "No handler
found for image type". I even tried changing my wallpaper back to one of the
default images that came with the phone and still no luck. Just comes back
saying Unknown format, 32.0 kb and that error.

I can do pretty much anything I want with the phone right now, pretty quick
and easy thru the file system, so getting the functionality in bitpim is not
a big issue for me, I'm just trying to give some input back to ya and
hopefully help.

Wow - great feedback, thanks.

You are using a LG-VX3200 phone from Verizon, correct? This is also what
you have selected in BitPim settings? I have heard indirectly that the
LG3200 from Telus is actually different and does not work with BitPim.

BitPim 7.34 works as advertised for my LG-VX3200 - I know I just tested
it. This Verizon phone is fairly crippled and that was why BitPim is doing
much of what it is doing with this phone (read the Help Notes and Howtos
for this phone).

Wallpapers (wallpaper.bit, poweron.bit and poweroff.bit) are fixed files
in /download. They are 565 formatted LG proprietary files. There is no
/brew/shared folder on my phone and creating one does nothing. The only
other BitPim accessible location to drop image files is /sms where you can
put mediapic###.dat files. The problem with these is that they are limited
to 64 colors and reduced size. A poor choice for wallpapers.

Ringers are in /user/sound/ringer. I can upload/download midi and mp3
files using PitPim just fine.

Post some error logs related to trying to read wallpapers. Perhaps I can
get to the bottom of this.
