I went thru the very same thing you just described.
I was told that bitpim is not able to write calendar back to the 6100

Seems strange to me to have that option available, but not work...
maybe someday someone will come along with the knowledge of how to do
this and donate their time and code to the effort

I ended up purchasing a program that transfers my calendar from
outlook to my 6100.
