Subject: 0.7.29 issue with QCP's uploading to Samsung A-670 - msg#00232

Using BitPim 0.7.29 with Windows XP Pro SP2 to a Samsung A-670 using a
data cable labels A610

In prior versions of BitPim, when adding QCP ringtones to the ringtones
tab, the files were automatically renamed in the tab to .PMD format. In
this version the name remains .QCP and the ringtones will not show up in
the phone as valid ringtones. (ie if I delete all ringtones from the
phone, add a new ringtone and successfully load it into the phone, when
using the phone to pick the new ringer, I get the message "Download
first" when I pick "MyMelody".) I can manually get around this by
changing the extension of the file from .QCP to .PMD before I add it to
the ringtones tab of BitPim. If the extension is .PMD the phone
recognizes it properly as a ringtone and all is fine.

Error does not appear to be in sending of the data, but in the renaming
of the file when the add button is used in the ringers tab.

In the above log, starting with a phone with no ringers, the
r_wigum_912.pmd file works properly in the phone as a ringer, but the
r_bush_approved.qcp file is not available in the "MyMelody" selection.

What type of computer (Mac, Windows, Linux)? With Mac OS X, and the current BitPim I'm able to import the mp3 with the title, "Orbital - The Saint.mp3" with no problem. When migrating to the phone, the "-" is removed, but "Orbital The Saint" still remains as the title. So I'm not bumping into a limitation of 8.3. In the code, the maximum file name is 32 characters. Not all characters are accepted by the phone, and BitBim strips out the offending characters. Speedial Import/Export

I've been using BitPim for a few weeks on two VX4400s that I and my wife recently acquired. It's really quite nice -- thanks to Roger and others who've maintained and improved it over the years. But I have one ardent feature request... Are there any plans to add speedial codes to BitPim phonebook import and export any time soon? I saw a message that said this was not high priority, but I hope this minimal change can be made in the near future. Here's why... Without these, phonebook import and export are really quite limited in usefulness. I can maintain my VX4400 phonebook somewhere else convenient, but every time I import it, I have to insert the speed dials by hand using the BitPim phonebook interface. I can't see any way around this without at least speed dial import. I'd really like to fill up my speed dial slots, or at least 30-40 of them, so this manual step is a major impediment to regular maintenance. I'm not asking for csv export (though it would be nice). I can transform the VCard format to a spreadsheet in a number of ways -- I've done it for now with MS Access. I don't know much Python or Perl, but I'll offer a deal -- if someone will add speed dial to the VCard export and csv and VCard import (or at very least, csv import), I'll learn enough Python to write and contribute a VCard->csv transformation (or maybe there's one out there somewhere). Thanks. --David Lewis ------------------------------------------------------- SF email is sponsored by - The IT Product Guide Read honest & candid reviews on hundreds of IT Products from real users.
