RE: @CHECK++ Long Distance: msg#00218mobile.bitpim.user
Sorry for repeating the question. As Roger elbowed by ribs, you are believed! I guess I am lucky. With my combination of Outlook, BitPim x.28 and vx6100 v2, I can enter (and retain) 10 and 11 digits numbers (with care) in the follow ways: A. Manually in Outlook 2003 B. Manually in BitPim's phone book C. Manually in the vx6100 phone D. After importing from Outlook into BitPim E. After transferring from BitPim to vx6100. You probably know but: To retain 10/11 digit numbers in Outlook you must NOT use the phone number entry/format buttons to enter the phone numbers. Doing so forcibly re-formats numbers to 11 digit format resembling +1 222-333-4444. For example, I created a test contact in Outlook 2003 and inserted the 4 phone numbers of 1-222-333-4444, 555-555-5555, 222-333-444 and 6666666666 into Home, Office, Fax, etc. I deliberately did *NOT* use the associated phone field entry buttons. I entered them directly into the displayed Outlook phone data fields. I then imported the test contact into BitPim. After import, the test contact had the 4 phone numbers of 1-222-333-4444, 5555555555, 2223334444, and 6666666666. Note the 1st is 11 digits, the remaining 3 are 10 digits, and the hyphens were stripped in the 10 digits cases. The Outlook format trick works in Office 2003, XP, and (pretty sure) 2000. Hope that helps. -----Original Message----- From: bitpim-user-admin@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:bitpim-user-admin@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of ve3kh@xxxxxxxxx Sent: Wednesday, March 23, 2005 1:19 PM To: bitpim-user@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: RE: @CHECK++ [BitPim-user] Long Distance No ... I have checked further. I really do HAVE to dial 1 for all calls to outside my local area, and every number when I am outside my local area. I really would like to see option of retaining the leading "1". With Verizon, at least, ALL US and Canada calls are made with 10 digit dialing. This includes local calls, inter-LATA and intra-LATA calls, calls to my own house, and calls across the US and calls to Canada. I think the original querier may have confused the rules they use on their POTS land line with the typically single format rule of their cell phone service. -----Original Message----- From: bitpim-user-admin@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:bitpim-user-admin@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of J R Overcash Sent: Monday, March 21, 2005 5:13 PM To: bitpim-user@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: RE: @CHECK++ [BitPim-user] Long Distance Can't help with the why but are you sure you need the 1 to dial from your cell phone? I import a list of category of outlook contacts using bitpim. The phone numbers are all there including leading "1" to dial long distance. I choose OK and then an import phonebook data screen appears. Now all the leading "1"'s are stripped from each phone number. So, how to keep the "1"??? ANy help appreciated ...
