John --

Problem is that BitPIM won't download the phonebook from the phone at all, and I have no phonebook data in BitPIM. So renaming the BitPIM database file won't help because it's empty. The only obvious solution I can see at this point is either manually typing all of the phonebook data into BitPIM, then deleting all the entries from the phone's phonebook, and finally sending the data I just typed into BitPIM to the phone. Unfortunately, that's a process that could take several hours, so you can see why some sort of workaround or an improved error-correction utility in BitPIM would be helpful.

The phonebook entries in the phone, by the way, are composed of about 5 or more separate *.DAT files, with the names in one file, phone numbers in another, etc., and with no obvious links between the separate files (to show which names go with which phone numbers, etc.), so "block-copying" the data from these files (which BitPIM can view only as Hex dumps) is somewhere in the range between extremely awkward and impossible.

But thanks for the thought.

Wouldn't it be easier to rename the bitpim data file (for me it's under My Documents\bitpim\bitpim.db) to something original like "oldbitpim.db", then download the phonebook from the phone again?

If it doesn't work, at least you can restore the original bitpim database file.

If you already have your data in BitPim it is just as matter of deleting
your phonebook entries on the phone (I have LGVX6100 and unless I'm totally
brain dead the only way was to delete each one individually) Then I was
able to move phone book data to the phone and back with out any problems. I
don't know if there is an easier way, I just had this problem and this is
the fix I was given!

Good Luck

Ross
