So then, I try to delete the *older* item, but it deletes the new one instead. I can't reproduce any problem like what you describe. What is the exact sequences of buttons, selections and edits you made? The bitpim faq states that the modem and serial diagnostic interface should be created, however only the modem interface is showing up in device manager under modems Bitpim will only show the physical com port on the system. I'm wondering how others have managed to access the rl-7300 via a straight through cable via bitpim? In other words, I can edit items in the calendar so long as I do not upload them to the phone.
