A little off-topic, but I used the mobile phone data cable method (as
per the wiki), and it worked very well. Only three points need to be
soldered, and they are very large. I have poor vision and my
soldering skills are bad enough to be considered humorous by some--
but I had no trouble at all.

I recommend this method of getting serial port access.
