The ethernet driver is destined for the mainline kernel. Something in
the mainline kernel can't read from nslu2-linux specific flash locations.

Even when we did this ourselves in our board code for the existing
driver, the answer *always* came back from upstream "you can do that
from userspace, so it doesn't get into the kernel".

Reading firmware from a file seems to be the way that most things are
going. How the file gets there and is then fed to the driver is up to
userland to figure out.
