Subject: IXP_NPE Driver Functional on LE & BE in SlugOS HEAD

Hey there,

Over the past week I've been working with the developer of the GPL
licensed, Intel Access Library free IXP NPE driver in order to iron
out bugs in Little-endian mode and add some extra features. The
result of this work is a driver which, in my experience seems stable
enough to be considered on early beta release, though it has only
been tested on the IXDP425 (BE) and NSLU2 (BE & LE) so far. The image
should/may function on the NAS-100D including onboard ethernet.

To see the patchset used to produce our 2.6.18 kernel go to:
http://trac.nslu2-linux.org/kernel/browser/trunk/patches/2.6.18

This kernel can be built from the SVN repository or by using
OpenEmbedded to build either OpenSlug or DebianSlug HEAD. The
OpenSlug and DebianSlug images built from HEAD currently boot
correctly and an SSH console is accessible.

One important feature missing currently in our kernel is correct
timekeeping, as we are waiting for ARM clocksource support which will
hopefully be merged by 2.6.19-rc1 and which we will then backport.

Devs: There are already bugs to fix, please check these lists.

Now, it's time for me to sign off. I'm going back to University and
won't have access to my build machines. I'll be back in December, in
the mean time feel free to email me if you need information about the
changes I've made.

Good luck,

Michael-Luke
