Also note that this is not a decision *against* mdev. I stated the
requirements, and we will choose the best solution considering all the
requirements, ease of use, ease of development, compatibility with
OpenEmbedded, etc, etc.

The jury is still out - if there is someone who is a massive
udev-proponent and wants udev to win, then the best way is to get it to
load the firmware. If there is someone who is a massive mdev-proponent
and wants mdev to win, then get it to support dropping new hotplug
scripts in an /etc/mdev.d directory so that packages can get mdev
support as soon as they are installed without having to edit a common
file or reboot.
