I'm currently considering this udev to mdev change to be a temporary
change to enable us to load the IXP microcode, rather than a decision on
a permanent change for SlugOS.

SlugOS is more than just a boot mechanism for Debian, so SlugOS needs
useable hotplug support which packages can install scripts for, not edit
a common config file (that's going backwards).

If I can't get an OE gphoto package to install a hotplug script, and not
have to edit a file to get it to work (including the postconf editing
files - that's just not safe), then we need to get firmware loading
working in udev instead.

I don't really want to diverge from the rest of OE in this area. For all
the warts, we do get a lot of advantage in SlugOS by being able to use
OE packages relatively unchanged.

And lots of people use SlugOS as the primary distribution in production
usage, without diverting to Debian or something else. So a change of
this magnitude needs a lot of consultation and a migration plan for
those people if it is to go ahead.
