Re: IXP_NPE Driver Inclusion proposal: msg#00050misc.nslu2.devel
Anyone got a preference for where we put the microcode in flash? I propose that it go in the last block of flash, after the FIS directory, but before the Sercomm trailer. Slugimage denotes this as the "Payload" area (see http://www.nslu2-linux.org/wiki/Info/LastBlockMemoryMap for details). I propose the start of the currently defined Payload area be used for NPE microcode. What is the maximum size that we need? The unused payload area is currently 0x1eff0 byte long. -- Rod Michael-Luke Jones wrote: > Loading new firmware is definitely desirable as the firmware Redboot > usually loads will be ancient. > On 11 Sep 2006, at 17:38, Marc Singer wrote: >> In the event that loading newer firmware is desirable, I think that we >> should both add the functionality to APEX *and* put the firmware into >> flash so that the kernel can load it as well.
