MirOS #9 - WTF is Verpeilungsfaktor?
The MirOS Team is proud to announce the availability of
updated versions of some of its software:
* MirOS BSD #9
The tenth issue of our BSD-based operating system has
been released; a formal release ISO will be available
via BitTorrent soon, a combined Install-/Live-CD will
be given away for a small donation at FrOSCon 2006 in
St. Augustin (near Bonn), Germany this weekend.
Major changes relative to MirOS #8 are linker / rpath
fixes, proper support for a boolean 'C'/'UTF-8' loca-
le environment, the inclusion of libiconv from Citrus
and NetBSD® in the base system as optional component,
updated versions of some of the tools and small fixes
and improvements throughout the system.
* MirPorts Framework
Every MirBSD(tm) release comes with a snapshot of the
MirPorts Framework which, this time, comes with a lot
of fixed and/or upgraded ports and some infrastructu-
ral optimisations.
* MirBSD Korn Shell
mksh R27d is also released and has already been upda-
ted in both the MirPorts Framework and FreeWRT. Major
changes against R26 are ~/.mkshrc support (which sin-
ce R27d is (like $ENV) only processed for interactive
shells) and some portability fixes (e.g. cross-compi-
lation and Solaris 10 support).
* MirMake
The latest issue of MirMake contains all enhancements
of MirOS #9 and a few convenience definitions for so-
me other operating systems (mainly Mac OSX/Darwin and
GNU/Linux).
* MirCPIO aka pax mirabilis
The MirOS archiver - pax(1), cpio(1), tar(1) - is ca-
pable of zeroing the ownership and mtime information,
like with the various cpio formats, now for the ustar
format as well; furthermore, this is now possible not
only from the cpio(1) but also from the tar(1) front-
end. The 20060624 issue also contains pathname length
fixes (from OpenBSD) for ustar.
* cksum
This version contains a non-i386 portable C implemen-
tation of the "suma" algorithm and supports a new al-
gorithm: "adler32" (the zlib one).
* FreeWRT - http://www.freewrt.org/
While not strictly MirOS related, the FreeWRT GNU/Li-
nux (mipsel, uclibc) distribution specialised for em-
bedded environments was cross-built for the first ti-
me from a non-GNU/Linux host: i386-ecce-mirbsd9. This
has been achieved by knowledge and code from MirPorts
and ages of experience in fixing broken upstream pro-
grammes.
Visit us at the following two events:
* Essener Linuxtage 2006, 16.-17. September, Essen, Germany
* 23C3, 25.-27. December, Berlin, Germany
* FOSDEM 2007, February, Bruxelles, België
