Questions about geostatic and Ko

Dear everyone:

In the geostatic state, the stress were assigned according to their 
initial stress, including the at rest lateral stress coefficient Ko.

My question is that once the Ko is been assigned at the initial 
conditon, does it mean that it applies to the rest of the steps or 
it only applies to  the initial condition?

If it only applies to the initial condition, what Ko (or Ka , Kp??) 
is used in the rest of the steps?

I dont know if I make my question clear to you or not. Please tell 
me any suggestions or answers if you have.
