Nntp: mailboxes names in the sidebar

Hi,

I put some newsgroups in my sidebar. That's fine, but the names, which
may be very long, have to be shortened, and thus become unreadable.

For example, I have in my .muttngrc:

mailboxes nntp://news.gmane.org/gmane.comp.gnome.apps.mc.general

which, in the sidebar, happens to be:

g.c.g.a.m.general

I was wondering if there is a way to transform this "g.c.g.a.m.general"
into something more understandable in the sidebar, like
"midnight_commander"...

Do you see any hint to achieve that?
