What CMUCL version are you using for compiling the sources, and what
sources are you trying to compile (from the 18e branch or from HEAD)?

for the compiling:
CMU Common Lisp CVS release-18e-branch + minimal debian patches,
With core: /usr/lib/cmucl/lisp-dist.core
Dumped on: Thu, 2003-07-31 16:01:11-07:00 on frost

for the sources: HEAD, fetched from cons.org anonymous CVS

So, you are compiling current sources from 18e?

If you're not doing cross-compiles, you're not going to succeed.
If you want help doing the cross-compiles, please ask. If you don't want to do the cross-compiles, grab a binary from the binaries directory and use that to compile the current sources. That should work, if you include, perhaps, the latest boot file.
