Ampache Announcement: msg#00009

Subject: Ampache Announcement
Announcement:

This is to announce the Ampache.deb project.

The Ampache.deb Project is, in the spirit of open source, a community
project to get Ampache included into the Ubuntu and Debian repositories
and to create the ultimate php web app packaging howto

What is Ampache?

Ampache is a Web-based Audio file manager. It is implemented with MySQL,
and PHP. It allows you to view, edit, and play your audio files via the
web. It has support for playlists, artist and album views, album art,
random play, playback via Http/On the Fly Transcoding and Downsampling,
Vote based playback, Mpd and Icecast, Integrated Flash Player, as well
as per user themes and song play tracking. You can also Link multiple
Ampache servers togeather using XML-RPC. Ampache supports GETTEXT
translations and has a full translation of many languages.

Ampache can be downloaded at www.ampache.org

So what has Ampache.deb project done so far?

The project team has managed to create a working .deb. This .deb
however does not meet debian or ubuntu standards and needs further
testing and tweaking.

So what does the Ampache.deb Project need?

The Ampache.deb Project is looking for an experienced packager/packagers
who are willing to be active in the project and be willing to entertain
questions from other team members. Be willing to review what has
already been done to ensure the quality of the package. Assist in the
creation of a packaging howto' to be posted on the ampache forum as per
upstreams request.

Ampache.deb Project main goal is to get Ampache into the Ubuntu and
Debian repositories but the project also has a secondary goal of being a
teaching/learning project. It is the intent of this project to provide
a detailed guide on how to package ampache for ubuntu and debian.
Hopefully this will become a very useful guide for future maintainers. I
would like for the Ampache packaging guide to be the one to go to for
instructions on how to package a php web app.

Interested packagers are requested to email Charlie at
