I'm starting to grow a distaste for it, so maybe I'm going to go
through the ubuntu install process again.  It looks like installing
ubuntu is hellish (for me) but _using_ Fedora is really unpleasant
(for me).  Hopefully the installation phase will be shorter than the
using phase, but the way things are going, you never know... ;-)

I'll post details of my problems.

Why not?

I've been having trouble finding out enough details of how BIOS raid
works to judge between it and other options.

One concern I have about softraid is that there's (AFAICT) no RAID
possible for the /boot partition.
