Question on the Adept Guide

Afternoon (or whatever time of day it is where you are reading this),

I am working on making changes to the current adept guide that is in svn and 
make it current and ready for upload to KDE Docs.  My question is how do I 
address the prompts for the root password and others for a non-Kubuntu 
system?  I haven't used a debian installed system with KDE in a long time so 
I've moved a little away from that.  Do I follow instructions such as being 
prompted for the sudo password?  Or would it just be better for me to install 
Debian and setup KDE?
