- Hi all,
- glad to help.
- I've run into the same (silly?) problems many times using Linux since '98.
- at one point I bought a spiral spined note-book with indeces. I've since
made hundreds of notes in that little book,- saving me hours if not days of
trying to remember how to do this or that.
- When I setup a Linux box for a company or a private individual, I always
supply such an (empty) notebook, telling people to actual make notes in it,
saying what they did to what system, when, why and how.
- Highly recommended.

Re: How can I open audio CD in xmms?
For me I enter /dev/cdrom or /dev/hdc (the cdrom device) and it reads the cd.
Have you got the Playlist window open as it seems to load the list and not
start playing until you press play again!
Alternatively you could use konqueror. Open up a konqueror window (either
type will work) and enter the following url "audiocd:/" This will then show
the contents of the drive in many different formats (they are not actually on
the drive but konq rips then according to the type when you select it. right
click on an ogg or wav or mp3 and select the program to play it - xmms or
noatun, kaboodle etc.
A final alternative is to use kscd it is a cd player.
Hope this helps
Andrew

You know, I always used to do that too when I worked in IT. Don't know
why I never thought to do it at home as well. Duh. Thanks for the
suggestion.

Unfortunately, it's these kinds of things that are keeping Linux from
gaining dominance. In order just to get your out-of-the-box distro to
perform the most basic of functions correctly, you have to subscribe
to mailing lists, news groups, and scour the internet and spend huge
amounts of time configuring things that should have been done in the
first place, But at least this one was an easy fix.
Would have been even easier, had you read the instructions during
install. The information you so desperately gleaned from the news
groups and mailing lists was right there in front of you.
Guess your "ranting" is totally uncalled for.
have a good day. No apology necessary or expected.
Yes, well, fortunatley there are acutally people on this list interested
in helping people rather than spitting acid. The fact is that I *did*
read the instructions and didn't find what I was looking for. So since
you had nothing to contribute to this thread, please don't. I hope the
next time you need help, that there are people as nice as you to shoot
some flames your way. Me, I'll be busy contributing positively to people
that deserve it. And, btw, I am having a good day, thanks muchly.
Roger, a lot of us have learned to use our mail filter and simply send
those emails straight to the trash, then empty the trash without looking
into it. . Sure does cut down the bp here.
Someone pointed out to me that the worst thing you can do to some people is
ignore them, I hope it works cause that;s what I do.
Glad we could help.
Richard
I know, and I'm sorry. I thought better of it after I posted. I usually
just ignore those. But I just finally got so sick of people who have
nothing better to do than flame others that I just had to say something.
You're right- it won't make any difference.
