It's not about kernels only, it's about all packages.

IMHO all packages that are ever released for a certain OS version (say
CentOS 5) should stay online (with the corresponding src.rpm's) for
support reasons.  This is not related to the package's quality or the
fact that nobody should run those old packages.

Now, AFAICS now this is done at vault.centos.org, so it's not that bad,
but it would be better if it was just in the main tree, kept on all
mirrors.

Having said this, I agree that the amount of data grows quite fast and
that mirrors might not want to carry it all, data that is mostly there
for reference and won't be downloaded very often.
