using newer HP printers - hplip is old: msg#00019linux.redhat.release.rhel5
Does anyone have a recommendation in how to incorporate a newer HP printer into CUPS under RHEL 5.2? The version of hplip installed is hplip-1.6.7-4.1.el5_0.3 which does not contain, say, the HP Color LaserJet 4005 while the version of hplip on Fedora 9 (hplip-2.8.2-2.fc9) does do so. This is a generic issue, not specific to the example printer. One cannot simply add the fc9 repo and install hplip from it- there are far too many dependencies. Plus, I prefer a standard RHEL update process, if possible. -- Andy Feldt Senior System Support Programmer Affiliate Assistant Professor Homer L.
