LINUX TOP Command: msg#00484linux.procps.devel
Hi Michael, I am a Capacity and Performance Analyst working on a wide variety of platforms. I am very impressed with the current Implementation of TOP, especially the ability to run it in batch mode. I do have a couple of suggestions. When running in Batch mode with output redirected to a file, there is no need to restrict the line length. Preferably, all fields selected should be written to the file without truncation. Again, when running in Batch mode, TOP may run for long periods of time, sometimes spanning a date. I use standard UNIX commands for a variety of data collection tasks, and I always have to redirect a timestamp to the file just before the data. eg: TIMESTAMP: 2003.03.27 10:11:08 Life would be much easier if the header information in the Batch output from TOP included the Date and Time in a nice clear (preferably ANSI) format. Thanks in advance, Your efforts are much appreciated, ---------------------------------------------------- Larry Elliott Software Consultant, Technology Planning ISM Canada One Research Drive, Regina, SK, S4S 7H1 /Location BE/ Phone: 306-790-5036, FAX 306-790-5320 Email: LELLIOTT@xxxxxxxxxx |
