Things and such: msg#00035linux.printing.gimp-print.devel
I'm still on vacation. We happen to be at a hotel with free Internet access. Curiously enough, I'm having problems with web access, but ssh to my home machine is working just fine. So I can't see what's going on with Nestor's web site. Couple of comments, though: 1) Tyler's in charge of reserving the new site or delegating it, since this is part of the overall renaming project of which he is in charge. 2) Nestor, thanks for initiating discussion with the Inkscape folks. Your answers were accurate. Can you continue to be the interface point, at least until I'm back? 3) On GutenPrint vs. Gutenprint, I prefer the latter, but not overwhelmingly. If most people prefer the former, that's fine. 4) About the database request: I'd like to put all of the printers into our database rather than telling people to refer to the NEWS file. This could be done with some kind of aliasing and a minor API change to get the actual printer name, perhaps. 5) I notice that the GIMP folks are targeting a final feature freeze by the end of August. We should be considerably deeper into beta by then. Tyler, would it be practical to have enough of the name change done so that we could effect final delivery of the 5.0 plugin to the GIMP folks? 6) I also see that the GIMP folks are looking at color management for post-2.2. This is something we should be tracking for our 5.1/5.2. 7) Mark, can you create a separate set of ink dropsizes for 4 pl printers supporting 2880x720 vs. those supporting only 1440x720? That appears to be the distinction -- the 680 supports 2880x720, right? 8) Mark, the defaults probably are still too dark, since I haven't reset them. The gamma control should behave more sensibly now, so you should be able to adjust that and get something reasonable. Be careful about changing the density; you may be unable to get a really solid black. 9) I really don't want to put much more effort into the GIMP 1.2 plugin. If you want to go ahead and do something about the size of the plugin windows, do so, but coordinate it with Roger and/or Sven for the 2.0 plugin. 10) I guess it's too late now, but Roger, did you get a chance to experiment with the R800? 11) Krishna, your problem with the PM-940C sounds like a Gimp-Print bug. I had to guess at the parameters for this printer, and evidently I guessed wrong. Can you determine the number of nozzles for each color for this printer? I may be able to read email once in a while, but for the most part I'll be offline. So far vacation has gone well; we were at the Tall Clubs International convention in Niagara Falls (Canada), and we're now in the Adirondack Mountains of northeast New York (USA). I've taken about 2000 photos to date. -- Robert Krawitz <rlk@xxxxxxxxxxxx> Tall Clubs International -- http://www.tall.org/ or 1-888-IM-TALL-2 Member of the League for Programming Freedom -- mail lpf@xxxxxxxxxxxx Project lead for Gimp Print -- http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net "Linux doesn't dictate how I work, I dictate how Linux works." --Eric Crampton ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.Net email sponsored by Black Hat Briefings & Training.
