Epson PM-940C setup problems.

Hi all. apologies in advance for the newbie question

I am the (un)fortunate owner of an Epson PM-940C, which I am trying to 
configure using CUPS + Gimp-print.

I'm running a standard Mandrake 10 installation, over which I compiled and 
installed Gimp-print v5.0.0beta1

I used the cups configuration web tool (http://localhost:631) to configure my 
printer and picked the \"CUPS+Gimp-Print v5.0.0beta1\" driver for the PM-940C.

The printer seems to install successfully, but when I try to print a test page, 
through the config tool's \"Print Test Page\" button, all I get is an endless 
series of form feeds, with the print head just moving a little bit but not 
printing anything for each page passed through.

Any help is appreciated.
