During development it was pretty clear from the beginning that user X's preferred button/key mapping would be radically different from user Y's, mainly because of the completely different types of applications (media player based) that it will control. ala. the the pause key on mpg123 being different to mplayer or xine. My assumptions were that users could create a custom scripts containing their preferences, loading them up on demand etc. You can always create a small script to unpack ED's initrd, add to it then re-bundle it up.
